Have you heard of the song “Dance Monkey" by Toni Watson?

If you've not, then hear it now...

Can you imagine a chartbuster with such a voice? How well the Artist within her knew that she could be a success? And how did she know? Maybe, by just accepting her childish voice, nature...right?

How often have we wanted to create something, learn a new thing and ended up crushing the voice within?

How often have we made something and showed to it our immediate circle and then after receiving some criticism,  just stopped?

How often we never do that one thing we really wanted to do after a setback?

How often we never are able to prioritize that one thing for ourselves which gives us pleasure?

How often have we not addressed that inner urge within?

Well, if such things have happened to you. Congratulations, it’s not new and it’s a path to being an artist. All of us have been down this road and almost all of us have ended up doing nothing about it and just moved on.

Have we realized what is that voice that is making us want to do a particular thing, learn a craft, and build something ? This , my friends is the supreme power trying to communicate with us.

Human beings are creative souls and creativity is nothing but god’s gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to god but due to our deep rooted social conditioning of being and doing things in a certain way makes us kill this voice of going beyond. We refuse to open our creative channels and resist the temptation of growth within us.

What if this doesn’t make sense?

What if it’s going to upset my parents?

What if my partner doesn’t like this?

What if my friends don’t understand it?

What if it’s too crazy?

These are the common thoughts which are enough to kill the baby inside us. This baby wants to make us do nonsensical things like dancing in the rain, write a poem, bake your style of pastry, make some fusion of different dishes, make a film, collect different types of coins, click a photograph, act in a theatre production, sing your own song and so many other things but this baby isn’t getting enough space to grow.

Humans and Art

Not all of us are professional painters but we are all artists. Each time we fit things together we are creating- whether it is to make a loaf of bread, a child, a day.

All of us are artists and we don’t need to be professional to do that. The earliest known evidence of ‘artistic behavior’ is of human body decoration, including skin coloring with ochre and the use of beads, although both may have had functional origins.

We need our household stuff to be in a certain way, we want to look a certain way, and we may want to garnish our food in a particular way. Don’t we all feel good coming back to a home well arranged?

Yes, we do. Right?

All these forms of human behavior show artistic rhythm in our souls. Creativity and art is deep rooted part of our subconscious which regulates us and is also responsible for secretion of some happy hormones.

Now there are some specific set of artists who begin a relationship with a particular form of art. Let us take an example of painters. Some may be intrigued by the idea of painting or some may want to paint because it calms them down and it is therapeutic to them and some of them want to become full time professional painters. I am sure we do realize that all of them are artists no matter which category they fall in.

So when we realize we are an artist and when we start romanticizing a particular form of art, we all begin a journey which is a roller coaster ride full of life, happiness, excitement, grit and determination and that journey is what makes us an artist. I can assure you one thing that this is an intimate relationship.

Since we all have our lows and highs and we face some issues we don’t know the solution to.

We welcome you all to a 12 week journey of transforming the artist within you.

About the Workshop

Our journey to creative transformation is based on a book  The Artist’s way  written by Julia Cameron who is an American author and a filmmaker and has helped millions of artists around the world. The book helps people with creative injuries and a collection of week- wise tasks which help us to go deeper thus leading to harnessing their own creative skills and talents.

The idea of the workshop is to collectively assemble like minded people and create an environment where we all follow steps together and do those tasks.

This journey is divided into 12 weeks where we meet every Tuesday on the mentioned time for 2 hours. The agenda for each week is different and there is a set of tasks which have to be done before we meet.

What to Expect?

I want to be a filmmaker or learn guitar or be a designer, this does not seem like it’s going to teach me any of that. So, why should I be here?

Sure, That’s true.

This journey won’t make you learn new strings of guitar or it won’t make you learn your dialogues in a fraction of a second but it will help you in following things.

  • Fulfilling the wish to be more creative.

  • Move past the vicious cycle of validation in which an artist is entrapped in.

  • Building your own style as an artist.

  • A more self- loving version of you.

  • Developing a sense of safety as an artist.

  • Sense of confidence in your own craft.

  • Living a life of creative living- an expanded sense of creativity in our business lives, relationships.

  • excavating your buried dreams.

  • giving yourself closure from the past.

  • This experience will make you excited, depressed, angry, afraid, joyous, helpful and ultimately, more free.

In short, you will have to continue practicing your craft e.g., playing guitar or writing anything but this journey will help you maintain your mental sanity, believe in yourself, increase productivity, improve your ideas range, help you go way deeper and have a sane relationship with your art.

Why should I participate?

I can workout at home but I prefer going to the gym. The analogy is very similar here.

A lot of information that’ll be shared in the group is already out there online, however collectively assembling to finish the book along with a mentor just speeds up the spirit. The deadline really gets us doing all those tasks and staying on track.

The journey to creative transformation can be overwhelming sometimes and that's when it’s advantageous to be a part of a group of like-minded people.
